My Journey Year 12
Today is March 28th 2024, Today 12 years ago this whole Epiccw journey began. In my room with my cat Jewel, my 3DS and some Beyblades. I turned on the camera and said “Welcome to my video… about Beyblades” The long pause at the intro showed the nerves that I felt. It had only been a month since I even discovered Youtube, I found it by accident. I was on “beyblade wiki” looking up Big Bang Pegasus and at the bottom of the page was a link to a video. I watched this video in amazement as a Japanese man disassembled a Beyblade in silence, I knew I needed to see more. Soon I was watching every video I could find about Beyblades. I would watch videos all weekend about Beyblades, I just knew I had to make my own. I remember laying on my bed in my room thinking, can do that, I can make videos. I talked to my parents about it, they seemed skeptical about it but weren’t against my plan to make content.
Back to March 28th once the video had started I just kept going, explaining each Beyblade item that I owned with excitement, I even did a few battles though they were basically un-viewable to let's say subpar camera work by me. I end my video by saying “Thanks for watching my video, Um subscribe to me” and that was it, my video and internet career was launched. It wasn’t an easy time outside of making videos though, in 2012 it wasn't normal to say in school "I want to make youtube videos' ' or internet content in general, that just wasn't seen as a path. Teachers were against it, even other kids in school were not really into it. Now every kid wants to do that, every kid posts videos in TikTok or instagram now at 13 but not back then. I remember being so secret in school about the fact I made youtube videos. I remember being told by counselors in both middle school and high school that it wasn’t a career path, it annoyed me but I didn’t care. I would go home and make videos daily.
I kept my channel a secret from most people in school until basically until 2016 when I was a Senior in high school. I don’t really fully understand why I did that, maybe I was just insecure. Things have now changed, I am super confident in my content and in myself. I'm very open about my content now with people. Most people I talk to at work know about my videos, some even subscribed, it's fun to have people say “I saw you uploaded another video” or talk with people about my content and the plans for the epiccw brand.
It's been a long journey from March 12th 2012 to now 12 years later, so much has changed with my content from Beyblades to Cars to Gaming to Overwatch league match analysis to K-pop album reviews back to Gaming this time with a heavy focus on racing to weekly videos breaking down NASCAR And Formula 1 races and honestly so much more in between.
One thing that was always fun was having my cats along with recording, from the first video i had them involved. Jewel was always in my Beyblade videos, Fiesta was always in my videos walking in between me and the green screen, Seoul was in the room when I was making a lot of my Overwatch league and K-Pop album videos. Now the cats are less involved in the recording location but Incheon and Jax are around for the planning and editing of videos begging for attention as I'm trying to focus.
Now it's time to get the next year and next chapter of Epiccw underway. Many new things are to come, more writing will be involved like this article. Videos will now appear on both Youtube and X. I'm so excited to branch out onto X and put videos on that platform both old and new. Im also excited to announce epiccw.net coming soon. It will be a place to host more articles like this plus much more including merchandise, and pages with focuses on other topics that interest me like music and food. I have big plans for the site and what epiccw as a brand can become.
Now for the thank you part, first I want to thank my parents for not putting a stop to my plans to make a video 12 years ago but actually showing interest in my channel and giving me a space multiple times to allow for the content to be made. Next up is a thank you to my brother for giving me advice on how to make content grow and help with the little details in content. I always remember the advice from him to not say “um” in videos. He’s always been someone to talk to about content that has a unique perspective on a change to make or a direction to take something. Next is Wanyá nearly 12 years of video making together, it was an amazing run 220 episodes of The GTA Race Playlist and hundreds of other videos and live streams, thank you for putting in so much time over the years to make as much awesome content together and especially for the 2023 we had, turning the channel into a place we both uploaded videos to was an amazing time. The growth of the channel last year was genuinely magical. Next is Johnathan, the newest person to join the channel and make content with me, his journey on the epiccw channel may be only a few videos in but I really appreciate him joining the GTA Online Race Playlist after Wanyá made his channel departure in January. Johnathan will be key to continuing on the content that I enjoy making the most and helping to carry on the longest running series on the channel. Next up to thank is Hope, for being someone that I share unique ideas with and get an honest and helpful assessment. She's someone that will be crucial to the next step of the epiccw brand. Lastly I want to thank everyone who has watched epiccw content and subscribed throughout the years, it means so much to me. I can’t wait to show everyone the new chapter of epiccw and I hope you all come along for the journey!
